Track Overview

Snetterton sits in the Breckland heathland of Norfolk, built on a former wartime airfield — and it shows. The circuit is flat, open, and exposed, with long straights that allow bikes to reach very high terminal speeds before the main braking zones. In those conditions, Snetterton is intoxicating for any rider who loves the sensation of genuine speed.

The 300 layout (2.99 miles) is one of the longest track day circuits in the UK. It extends the classic Snetterton loop with the Coram and Hamilton sections — adding a long back straight where superbikes reach genuine top speed before the Russell complex. If you want to find out how fast your bike can actually go, this is the place to come.

Off the track, Snetterton's paddock is well-organised and the MSV infrastructure is consistent with other venues in the group. The facilities are functional rather than spectacular — the focus here is on the riding, which is as it should be.

The circuit's isolated Norfolk location means you will need to plan ahead for accommodation and fuel. But this remoteness is also part of Snetterton's charm — it draws a committed crowd of riders who have made the journey deliberately, and the atmosphere in the paddock reflects that.

Circuit Layout & Key Corners

Riches

The first corner — a tight right-hand chicane that arrives at the end of the long back straight where bikes are travelling very fast. Braking discipline is everything here. Get your braking done early, let the chicane flow rather than rushing the second part, and focus on a clean drive onto the long straight.

The Esses

A flowing S-bend sequence in the middle sector. The Esses reward smoothness and commitment — carrying momentum through the transitions rather than braking between each change of direction. This is a section where rhythmic riding makes a significant difference to lap time.

The Bomb Hole

A fast, dipping right-hander that passes through a slight valley in the terrain. The bike loads up under the dip and the grip level is higher than it initially appears. Be progressive here — it is faster than it looks, and faster than most riders go on their first visit.

Oggies

A tight, slow hairpin that is the main overtaking point on the circuit. Hard braking from significant speed into a right-hand hairpin. Trail-braking and patience are rewarded — it is very easy to run wide, so find a consistent line before trying to push.

Russell Chicane (300 layout)

At the end of the Hamilton Straight, the fastest section of the 300 layout, the Russell chicane arrives after a very long flat-out blast. Braking from close to top speed, the chicane is tight and unforgiving. Get your braking references established early in the session.

Who Is This Track Good For?

Novice

Snetterton is technically accessible for beginners — the long straights and clear sightlines make it less intimidating than twistier circuits. However, the very high approach speeds into some braking zones (particularly Riches and Russell) mean good braking technique is essential before you build pace here.

Intermediate

The Bomb Hole and the Esses are where intermediate riders develop confidence. Focus on carrying speed through the flowing sections rather than braking. The 300 layout opens up the Hamilton Straight — a genuinely exciting progression.

Advanced

Fast laps at Snetterton are set on the 300 layout with consistent high-speed commitment throughout. Terminal speeds on the main straights approach or exceed those at Silverstone. Getting the Esses sequence right at full race pace is a serious challenge.

Noise Limits at Snetterton

105 dB(A) Static Limit

Snetterton operates under MSV's standard 105 dB(A) static noise policy. Noise testing is conducted at the paddock noise check station before the event begins.

The open heathland location means noise travels further than at enclosed circuits, and MSV takes noise compliance seriously at all its venues. Persistently noisy bikes will be excluded from track sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the noise limit at Snetterton?

105 dB(A) static. Enforced by MSV in line with their standard venue policy.

What is the difference between the 300 and 200 circuits at Snetterton?

The 300 circuit (2.99 miles) is the longer layout, extending into the Hamilton and Coram sections with an extremely long back straight. The 200 circuit (1.91 miles) uses a shorter inner loop. Most track day events use the 300 layout. Check with your organiser.

Is Snetterton suitable for beginners?

The long straights and open sightlines make Snetterton more visually accessible than some circuits, but the very high approach speeds into braking zones mean riders need solid braking technique. It is better suited to those with some prior track experience.

How do I get to Snetterton Circuit?

Snetterton is on the A11 between Thetford and Attleborough. Follow the A11 from the M11 or from Norwich. The circuit is signposted from the dual carriageway. Postcode: NR16 2JU.

What makes Snetterton 300 unique?

The Hamilton Straight on the 300 layout is one of the longest straight sections on any UK track day circuit. Bikes reach genuine top speeds — well over 150 mph on modern superbikes — before braking for the Russell chicane. This makes it one of the fastest track day experiences available in the UK.
